The BMW 5 Series - best images, latest prices, reviews
BMW 2007 model line (archive)
The 2007 BMW 5 Series sedan comes in 525i, 525xi, 530i, 530xi and 550i models. The wagon is available in 530xi trim only. Standard equipment includes automatic climate control, a CD player, one-touch power windows, rain-sensing windshield wipers and heated mirrors. Ten-way power front seats are also standard, with 20-way power seats available as a package option. Leatherette upholstery is standard on all models except the 550i, which gets standard leather. The iDrive vehicle management system is integrated into all 5 Series models, while a DVD-based navigation system with voice command and adaptive cruise control are optional. On the audio side, buyers can get a glovebox-mounted CD/DVD changer as well as a premium-grade Harman Kardon Logic 7 sound system. Other options to consider include adaptive bi-xenon headlights, a night-vision system, Active Front Steering (AFS), and a sport package with various wheel/run-flat tire upgrades (up to 18 inches in diameter), Active Roll Stabilization and firmer suspension tuning.

Entry-level 525 models come with a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder that generates 215 horsepower and 185 pound-feet of torque. Midlevel 530 models get an upgraded version of this engine that develops 255 hp and 220 lb-ft of torque. The top-of-the-line 550i sedan features a 4.8-liter V8 rated at 360 hp and 360 lb-ft of torque. All models get a six-speed manual standard, with a six-speed Steptronic automatic as an option. The rear-drive 530i and 550i can also be had with BMW's sequential manual gearbox (SMG), a sophisticated transmission that combines the control of a manual with the ease of an automatic. BMW's xDrive all-wheel-drive system is available on 525 and 530 sedans, and standard on the wagon. Note that the wagon also comes with a self-leveling rear suspension to help balance the heavier cargo loads it's apt to carry.

The 2007 BMW 5 Series is an extremely balanced machine that can handle aggressive driving maneuvers on winding back roads as well as it does weekday commutes on crumbling expressways. The optional active steering system hasn't dulled BMW's trademark steering feel, though driving purists will prefer the standard setup. Likewise, the standard suspension tuning gives the 5 Series plenty of capability in the corners. The base inline six offers adequate power, while the 255-hp version offers the best compromise between performance and economy.

The BMW 3 Series - best images, latest prices, reviews...
BMW 2007 model line (archive)
The 2007 BMW 335i coupe features a new twin-turbocharged engine that puts out 300 horsepower, which makes for the ultimate driving machine. We found it to be an extremely responsive and pleasing car, with none of the turbo lag associated with turbochargers. Meanwhile, the 328xi features all-wheel drive, which enhances traction in wet or snowy weather. A new convertible with a retracting hardtop and the next ultra-high-performance M3 are anticipated for launch in calendar year 2007.

BMW gives 3 Series coupe customers many trim choices, including beige, saddle brown, black, gray and red upholstery and burl walnut, brown or gray poplar or brushed aluminum trim. While the interior has design cues similar to the 3 Series sedans, there are many subtle changes, such as additional tick marks on the gauges.

The cockpit will look and feel familiar to BMW 3 Series owners, though they'll appreciate the new ambient lighting system at night and the way their shoulder belts are presented to them by arms that emerge from little doors built into the rear side interior trim panels. It used to be that the driver and front-seat passenger had to reach way back to find their shoulder belts, but now they simply sit down and close the doors and the belts come to them.

The 2007 BMW 3 Series coupe is available in three versions: 328i, 328xi, and 335i. Variables among the models include engines, transmissions, drivetrain and standard and optional equipment. The 328i and 335i are rear-wheel drive; the 328xi is all-wheel drive.

The 328i ($35,300) and the 328xi ($37,100) are propelled by a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine that pumps out 230 horsepower and 200 pound-feet of torque. They offer a choice of six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.

The 335i ($40,600) also has a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine, but two small turbochargers and special fuel injectors boost the engine's output to 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque. That power flows to the rear wheels through either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. The 335i adds matte 18-inch wheels (vs. 17s on the 328i and 328xi), larger brake discs front and rear, chrome exhaust tips, eight-way power front seats with memory on the driver's side and a 13-speaker Logic 7 audio system.

Safety features that come standard on all 2007 3 Series coupes include frontal, side-impact and side-curtain airbags; dynamic stability control with several advanced braking technologies including one that helps remove water from the brakes in rainy weather, run-flat tires with a tire-pressure monitoring system. The 328xi features BMW's xDrive system for improved stability in adverse conditions.

The BMW 1 Series - best images, latest prices, reviews...
BMW 2007 model line (archive)
The BMW 1 Series remains a unique proposition today. Building on this winning platform, the revised five-door BMW 1 Series went on sale in March 2007 with the three-door following in May. It features the same class-leading dynamics as before but mated to a raft of technological innovations born from BMW’s EfficientDynamics programme. EfficientDynamics offers solutions to the seemingly diametric goals of increased power and performance, yet improved economy and emissions.

The BMW 118d is BMW’s most economical car, managing a record 60.1mpg. Aside from the BMW Hydrogen 7, the BMW 118d posts the lowest ever CO2 emissions of any BMW recording 123g/km, putting it into the Band C category for Vehicle Excise Duty.

It is not just diesel power where all the gains in performance have been made. The 1,995cc four-cylinder petrol engine used in the 118i and the 120i both post significant improvements in performance compared to the powerplants they replace. The 143hp 118i has a 14hp improvement while, at the same time, offering a 24 per cent drop in fuel consumption and a 21 per cent reduction in emissions. Similar gains have been made with the 120i.

The BMW 1 Series comes as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox. Customers can specify a six-speed automatic with Steptronic function offering manual changes of the automatic gearbox for spirited driving. This sophisticated automatic gearbox comes with new torque converter technology featuring an integrated torsion damper that reduces energy losses and ensures even shorter reaction and gearshift times. BMW 130i M Sport models specified with an automatic gearbox come with steering wheel mounted paddle shift to activate the changes.

The BMW X5 SUV - best images, latest prices, reviews...
BMW 2007 model line (archive)
The new BMW X5 will be offered in the U.S. with either a 4.8-liter V8 boasting 350 bhp or a 3.0-liter straight-six with 260 horsepower. The new X5 is the only car in its segment available with both Active Steering system developed by BMW, and Adaptive Drive (a mixture of Active Roll Stabilization and Electronic Damping Control). It is also the opening SAV to be fitted with run-flat tires in standard.

The dynamic character of the new BMW X5 is beautifully underlined by the muscular elegance of the exterior design, just like the adaptable and elegant interior. The inside of the E53 X5 was one of its trademarks. The interior of the new X5 combines highly sophisticated materials with abundant innovative options, offering a first-class ambience. A considerable ground clearance and an elevated driving position continue to characterize the unique driving experience this vehicle offers. All at once the interior is more flexible than before and, allows now the addition of an optional, third row of seats. Just as with the original, the inside of the E70 X5 is characterized by premium finesse and a wide range of equipment which set new standards for the automobiles in this segment.

The interior of the new BMW X5 offers a higher driving seating position and an arrangement of the driver-oriented instrument panel to convey the impression of uninhibited control. All the functions and the displays in the comfort zone in the middle of the dashboard are clear and easy-to-read. The main Display for the BMW iDrive operating system is located on the instrument panel at the same level as the circular instruments putting it straight in the line of vision of both the driver and front passenger.

The BMW Z4 Series - best images, latest prices, reviews...
BMW 2007 model line (archive)
The BMW Z4 is one of the more intriguing sports cars currently available. It's known for its engaging handling and steering, thrilling inline six-cylinder engine and distinctive styling. Although its stated horsepower ratings are equaled or surpassed by those of some less expensive machinery, the Z4 counters with a lighter curb weight and, in most cases, a more rewarding driving experience. Recent improvements have made the latest Z4 the best yet, and older models are still a very viable choice for a used sports car.

The bmw z4 3.0si features 18-inch wheels, a few upgraded interior features and a 255-hp 3.0-liter inline six. A few options are also available for both trim levels, including a Premium package with a power-operated top and a Sport package designed to improve the vehicle's handling capabilities. The Z4 Coupe is offered in the 3.0si trim only. The BMW Z4 is available as a roadster with a convertible top or a fixed-roof coupe. For the roadster, there are two trim levels: 3.0i and 3.0si. The Z4 3.0i comes with features such as 17-inch wheels, stability control, antilock brakes, power mirrors and windows, manually operated seats and vinyl upholstery.

From 2004-07, BMW Z4 models were identified as either 2.5i or 3.0i. The 2.5i has a 2.5-liter, inline six-cylinder engine that makes 184 hp, while the 3.0i uses a 3.0-liter straight six that generates 225 hp. For transmissions, there is a five-speed manual (standard on the 2.5), a six-speed manual (standard on the 3.0), a five-speed automatic or, as on the M3, a six-speed Sequential Manual Gearbox (SMG). There were a few minor changes made during this period in terms of feature content, but none of them were significant enough to make one model year more desirable than another.
