It is all the theory. As to practice we shall begin with new 3,0‑liter a diesel engine. Supply of fuel is adjusted by system Common Rail of the third generation. Capacity of the engine makes 245 h.p., and the twisting instant reaches 540 Nanometers at 1750 rev/min. In practice the motor is dispersed with the car for 7,2 with up to "hundred" and pacifies the ardor on the maximal 245 km/h.
So the diesel engine still will give odds to the petrol engine. At movement with different intensity on roads to vicinities of Dresden where passed test drive, the onboard computer gave out expense of fuel nearby 9–10 liters on 100 km. The petrol motor in volume 4,4 l (407 h.p.) with a double turbo-supercharging for the first time has found a life on model X6. Logical extension became installation of this engine on new BMW 7 Series.
By development of the motor the unique technology is used. For the first time turbochargers and catalytic neutralizers are located in space between numbers of cylinders.
As a result it was possible to achieve compactness of the engine at considerable volume. The maximal capacity of the motor reveals in a range 5500–6400 rev/min. And the violent twisting instant in 600 Nanometers is formed at 1750–4500 rev/min.
Up to 100 km/h the car «Fires» for 5,2 with, and the maximal speed breaks on a mark of 250 km/h.
With such parameters "seven" could become the presents sports car. But at it at all other calling.
The new motor provides flagman model BMW good acceleration. From dispersal grasps spirit and pleasantly presses to a back of a seat. But there is it softly, instead of jerk and is sharp. And it is necessary to the car of a representation class.
At the wheel BMW 7 Series and furthermore on back seats, it would not be desirable fragmentary driving at all and mad haste. The high level of comfort provides new running. In a forward suspension bracket the dual cross-section levers for the first time are used. For a long time it is time! Such design will be already made good use by competitors. Patented BMW the integrated five-lever suspension bracket executed, as well as in front, from aluminium behind works.
As an option it is possible to order system of active steering management. On low speeds back wheels turn in opposite, and on high — in the same side, as lobbies. But such "chesspiece" is already on Infiniti G37 Coupe so innovative system to name it is impossible.
Of traffic safety in new "seven" too have thought. Into a serial complete set enter bi-Xenon headlights, and for an extra charge it is possible to establish adaptive system of illumination and system of distribution of a light stream. Electronics automatically switches near and far light depending on external conditions.
New 7 Series it can be equipped with system of night vision BMW Night Vision with function of recognition of pedestrians. The in itself chamber of night vision not a novelty — Mercedes-Benz establishes it on model S-Class. But at BMW it more advanced. The main element — imager, distinguishing people and animals behind area of illumination of headlights.
The videoimage is passed to the display where alive objects are allocated with yellow color. At danger of impact the system in addition warns the driver.
