FAQ for BMW owners
How do i open the hood of my 1988 bmw 740i?
i left the lights on and my battery has run down. the locks on this car are electric so now i cant get into my car to open my hood to replace or jumpstart the battery. i was wondering if there was an alternate way to get my hood open or somehow get into my car without really taking anything apart.
please use your key and open the trunk. the battery is there.once your jump start or replace new battery, your alarm system will trigger.please keep your remote availble to stop the alarm. you will have to lock your trunk manually again before u can use the remote control without problems.
if car doest not start, insert your key and once u see the lights appear on cluster,u press the reset button manually.
now start the car.once started.you can off the engine.come out of your car and lock your car with remote.again open and then you start your engine.
it shud start without problems now. good luck.
Is it possible to change a BMW M5’s transmission from manual to automatic or automanual?
I am about to buy a BMW M5 with manual transmission and I was wondering if it is possible to convert it from manual to auto or automanual? If so, where can I get it done? How much will it cost?
Harley guy has no f*cking idea what he’s talking about. It can be done, but it would cost an insane amount of money. The base e39 transmission does not mount up to the S62 V8 in the M5, so it would need custom adapters to fit, a custom driveshaft would be needed, and adapters like the Guibo disc would need to be modified to work along with the driveshaft. At the very least you’re looking at $1000 for a used e39 tranny w/o shipping, custom driveshafts can be had for around $500, custom fit guibo $?, all the interior mods (auto shift knob, computers, etc…), and then the labor involved. A project like that could easily reach over $5000. Not worth it IMO. The M5 is a true sports car, it wasn’t meant to get a granny tranny…
How to Reduce sound from the Exhaust (Muffler) of my BMW 525i 1990 model?
Make: BMW
Model: 525i
Year: 1990
Mileage: 125000 Kms. (78000 Miles)
I purchased the car recently. The Exhaust of the car makes too much sound. What could be the reason? do I have to change that or Is there any leakage from the exhaust pipe? Any suggestions would help.
Go to a reputable exhaust place, one that you might know of that won’t say replace as soon as you walk in. Have hem inspect, and request they show you what they find. If mufflers noisy, then most likely will need replacing anyways.
I wanna get a bmw x3. But i also want it to be manual, rather then automatic transmission?
Note that i never driven a manual, but i wanted the x3 to be the first car for me to drive manual.. u think ill be able to not destroy the transmission, if i learn quick? or is it not worth ruining the engine? Help me out… some people say that i should get it, and some pepole say i shouldnt get manual on the x3 cus it’s my first car driving manual, and that i would ruin the transimission or what not…. advices?
if you basically know how to drive a manual already, you’ll get the hang of it quickly, assuming it’s your daily driver. if you’re going to learn using it, well, yeah, depending on what mistakes you make, you could ruin the transmission (my brother, sister and i all practiced manual on the same car when we were young, that car never needed any tranny repairs). but you say this isn’t your first time, just your first car, so i wouldn’t worry so much.
the main thing is, keep learning. just because you can get to point A to point B, doesn’t mean you don’t need to continuously learn how to get there more efficiently, more comfortably, and more safely.
What’s a good exhaust to buy for a 2001 E46 BMW 330i ZSP?
I want it to be like louder than a freaking aircraft, and give me some performance as well.
supersprint race exhaust.. if you have the headers, straight pipe, connecting pipe w/o resonator, and race muffler system, you’ll be miles louder than an aircraft. also reccommended: remus, active autowerke, borla, milltek, eisenmann, evosport (headers), dinan, rogue engineering, etc. main thing to look for is the grade of the stainless steel (should be t304).
2008 BMW M3 exhaust?
I want to put an aftermarket exhaust on my new BMW 2008 M3 convertible coupe. What kind will give it a deeper sound and make it sound mean?
Currently the only E93 exhaust I know of is the Active Autowerke system. It’ll run you about $2,700 for the whole system, plus assuming you want the software to let it run at it’s full potential it can be more. It’ll provide somewhere around +15hp more than stock, it weighs 12lbs less than the stock exhaust, and it gives it that beautiful Active Autowerke sound. It will probably void your warranty, though. I’d wait a few months for the price to go down and more options to come out, though.
Is a BMW 318I a good used car to buy?
I’m a student and I have 5000-6000$ to buy my first car.I’ve been looking for a while for a good car and I’ve come down to the BMW 318I.I live in Canada and I might get this car at the 200 000 km mark.I know that owning a car with the much km isn’t safe but I only want to keep this car for 5 years max.I know that having a BMW I should expect to pay heavy money to repair some parts but I’m ready to pay the price.I just want to know if this car isn’t going to die on me,is this a reaible car?
Any car with that much mileage (uh…km-age?) is a bit of a crap shoot. If it’s been properly maintained it’s got a better chance of lasting longer, but there’s no guarantees. BMWs are not known to be exceptionally reliable (I’m basing this on Consumer Reports), but how long the particular car you’re looking at will last (out of countless thousands that were built) is subject to a certain amount of random chance which might work for or against your favor.
If you really want it and are okay with the possibility of expensive repairs, go for it.
If you are more concerned about reliability — what car will last me the most miles with minimum repairs (or more accurately, which car is most LIKELY to) — you are better off getting a Honda or Toyota will less miles.
