Starting E38 engine operation from the auxiliary power supply - BMW POWER SUPPLY BLOCK

Use of the auxiliary power supply will help to make a starting engine operation in an extreme situation, however then it is necessary to find out and eliminate the reason of a discharge of the battery. Number of the most typical reasons concern:
1. Carrying out of numerous unsuccessful attempts of a starting engine operation, or left lighting instruments engaged for long time at the idle engine;
2. Infringement of serviceability of functioning of system of gymnastics (weaken or the generator drivebelt is torn off, the wiring is damaged, or the generator is faulty);
3. Failure actually the accumulator battery (electrolyte level has fallen, or there was an accumulator life cycle).
At performance of a starting engine operation from the external power supply it is necessary to pay attention to observance of some special precautions:
1. It is not necessary to try to start the engine from the frozen accumulator battery, - preliminary warm up it;
2. The starting engine operation from the auxiliary power supply should be made only at the cold power unit and the catalytic converter;
3. It is not necessary to carry out start by means of the device for the accelerated gymnastics of the accumulator battery;
4. Before connecting the auxiliary battery, make sure that ignition is switched off;
5. Use only cables with a sufficient lateral section and with the isolated plugs;
6. Track, that all consumers of the electric power (lighting and heating devices, window wipers, etc.) also have been switched off;
7. Put on protective gloves and points;
8. Make sure that the auxiliary battery on the output voltage corresponds to the established;
9. If as the auxiliary power supply the battery established on other vehicle is used, track, that cars did not adjoin with each other;
10. The car-donor engine, should work on single turns;
11. Make sure that transmission is established in position of neutral drive (m gearbox) or in position «P» (AT);
12. From the discharged battery remove ventilating covers and cover bores with rags.
1. Connect the end of one wire (usually red colour) to a positive side of the sat down battery or to plus contact piece in an impellent compartment. The second end of this wire connect to a positive side of the auxiliary battery.
2. One end of the second wire (usually black colour) connect to a negative side of the auxiliary battery or to a weight point (a top mounting of a windscreen pillar or the cylinder block). The second end of a black wire connect to reliably earthed point on the block of the started engine (a bolt or a bracket), whenever possible far away from the battery.
3. Make sure that connecting leads do not adjoin to moving components in impellent compartments of both cars (the fan, drivebelts, etc.).
4. Supporting a rotary speed of a bent shaft of the car-donor at level of 2000 rpm, execute standard procedure of a starting engine operation of the car with the discharged battery then allow to it to work some minutes on the raised turns.
5. For the purpose of prevention of throws of pressure at the moment of wiring unhooking engage an antifrost screen and the heater fan, then unhook wires, operating in an order, the return to an order of their connection. Do not forget to establish on the battery the removed ventilating covers.
